Todi, Umbria, Italy

Piazza Garibaldi, little more than a parking lot, but a beautiful one!

From Piazza Garibaldi, the wife, overlooking the countryside to the North.

Daughter Swap. Sometimes it is difficult to tell which daughter goes with which mother!

For the record, mine are the two in the middle.

The setting was enough to bring out the model in anyone, but especially the Darling Daughter.

When we first got in last Saturday, it was late and at nearly 11:00 at night, this was the only restaurant we could find that would still serve us. They served us royally until well after midnight, so we went back for lunch! We intend to return when R&S get to town!

From every passage in Todi there is a view across the rooftops that requires a moment to absorb.

The Tempio San Fortunato on the highest point in Todi on the South is covered outside with these tiny (~8-inch) sculptures - a stark contrast to the relatively undecorated interior.

So rare that I get to take pictures of my wife when she is so relaxed (even though exhausted by climbing through the streets of Todi and the heat).

In fact, this may be the most relaxed that I remember ever being, myself.

Inside the Tempio San Fortunato was this fragment of a fresco that may be the most serene Madonna and Child I've ever seen. They must have lived in Todi!

This may be my favorite picture in Todi, and is the one I've chosen for my sidebar at the left (top).

In spite of the austere beauty of San Fortunato, no trip to Todi would be complete without a visit to the Duomo.

Major parts of the Duomo are being restored, including this incredible wall that is the central entrance to the sanctuary.

Todi is filled with places that I'd love to turn into stage settings. This is just opposite the Duomo on the Piazza Del Popolo.

I got lost getting out of Todi, specifically for the purpose of finding this little gated garden.

This is the view of Todi, 10 kilometers away, from the wall of our little village of Pesciano. It had rained when this picture was taken, and it is taken with maximum zoom, so it is a little gray and grainy.

A Day in Todi

We spent a delightful day exploring Todi, a hilltop town of about 15,000 in Umbria. It was beautiful beyond description. We'll be going back frequently as it is only 11km from our Stone House in Pesciano.
